A glacial system is an open physical system driven by climate, comprising inputs (snow/ice accumulation), storage (ice mass), transfers (ice flow via gravity), and outputs (ablation/melting/calving). It operates through a balance between the accumulation zone (upper, high elevation) and the ablation zone (lower, melting area), separated by an equilibrium line.
