Description
magnetic dip needle is a magnetized needle that is free to rotate in a vertical plane and is used in school laboratories to study the Earth’s magnetic field. It is mounted on a pivot and placed over a circular scale marked in degrees. When aligned with the Earth’s magnetic field, the needle makes an angle with the horizontal, known as the angle of dip. This angle varies from place to place depending on location on Earth. At the magnetic equator, the dip is 0°, while at the magnetic poles it is 90°. The instrument helps students understand the direction and behavior of magnetic forces. It is simple in construction and widely used in basic physics experiments.
