Description

A gold leaf electroscope is a scientific instrument used to detect the presence and measure the amount of electric charge on an object. It works by utilizing the principle of electrostatic repulsion between like charges. The electroscope consists of thin gold leaves suspended from a metal rod, housed within a transparent container, often a glass jar.
